Here’s a truth I’m holding close as we embark on a new year—I’m no discipline maestro. As I reflect on my journey, I see discipline as this subtle force shaping my path. Sometimes I aced it, and other times, well, let’s just say it’s a work in progress. I’m under construction too!
**1. Saying No to Bad Food:**
Imagine that seductive slice of pizza or those tantalizing chips. Trust me, I get it. But saying no to unhealthy choices is a form of self-love. It’s choosing the fuel that powers not just your body but your entire being. I literally bought a vegetable tray today to have with my baked chicken. Aren’t you proud?
**2. Saying No to Overspending:**
Retail therapy can be tempting, right? (especially online) I admit, I’ve fallen for it too. Discipline, here, is about saying no to impulsive purchases, focusing on what truly matters, and building a nest egg for the future. So, yes that means no going into Walmart or Target for “milk” and coming out with a $200 receipt, ugh! Don’t impulse buy. Don’t get a cart or basket! Get what you came for Willis! lol.
**3. Saying No to Overindulgence:**
We all have our guilty pleasures, be it screen time, binge-watching, or extra helpings of dessert. Balancing indulgence with discipline ensures we savor life without losing ourselves in excess. I tend to overindulge in karaoke and waste hours singing. I can enjoy singing but I have to monitor my time expense.
**4. Saying No to Wasting Time:**
Time, our most precious asset. I’ve had my share of time sinks, moments I can’t rewind. Discipline means saying no to activities that steal our time, redirecting it toward what truly counts.
**5. Saying No for Self-Care:**
Saying no isn’t just about restriction; it’s creating room for self-care. Saying no to draining commitments and toxic ties paves the way for meaningful connections and personal well-being.
**A Personal Note:**
Looking back, I see its impact, the strides, and the stumbles. I’ve learned that saying no extends beyond things—it’s about not investing in those who won’t invest in themselves. Time wasted on the wrong people is time robbed from your own growth. So, here’s to saying no to time-wasters—people included. Don’t let them occupy your space, mind, or have access to the amazing individual you are.
Here’s to embracing the journey, learning, and saying no to what holds us back…mostly ourselves!
