Watch Me Care: Why Time is My Favorite Present

Today, I want to chat about something truly invaluable—time. We live in a world that’s always on the go, where seconds feel like milliseconds, and schedules are tighter than skinny jeans on a hot summer day. But amidst this hustle, there’s a gift we often overlook—the gift of time.

You see, time is like that rare gem you stumble upon in a thrift store—it’s precious, it’s unique, and once it’s gone, you can’t just order a new one on Amazon. In our fast-paced lives, we’re often caught up in a whirlwind of commitments, deadlines, and the never-ending quest for productivity. But in this quest, are we forgetting to give each other the simple, yet profound gift of time?

Think about the last time someone took a moment out of their hectic day to just be there for you. Whether it was a friend, a family member, or even a colleague, that undivided attention felt like a warm hug for your soul. In a world flooded with notifications and constant connectivity, the act of giving someone your time has become a rare and beautiful gesture.

Now, don’t get me wrong—I get it. Our schedules are busier than a beehive in spring. But here’s the secret sauce: it’s not about the quantity of time; it’s about the quality. It’s about those genuine moments where you put down your phone, look someone in the eye, and say, “Hey, I’m here, and I’m fully present.” Yesterday I accompanied my dad to his doctor’s appointment and I swear that the quality time filled my soul. He is so funny. Every moment and second I cherished. I wasn’t consumed with anything else. I was present in the moment! A great time was had!

So, why is this gift of time so darn important? Because it’s in those moments that connections deepen, bonds strengthen, and a simple conversation transforms into a meaningful exchange. It’s a reminder that amidst the chaos, we can still carve out pockets of time to show others they matter. And don’t forget that the currency of life is time and that’s also what children need the most. Stay tuned for another post on that.

Let’s challenge ourselves to be present, to give this precious gift to those we care about. Whether it’s a coffee date with a friend, a heartfelt conversation with a loved one, or simply sitting in companionable silence, let’s make time for each other. Because in the grand tapestry of life, these moments of connection are the threads that weave a beautiful story.
