Motivation is an Inside Job: Validation is for Parking, Not People

Alright, let’s talk about motivation and why it’s an inside job. Ever heard the saying, “Validation is for parking, not people”? It’s spot on. Too often, we look for external validation to feel good about ourselves, but real motivation comes from within.

Think about it: when you rely on others for validation, you give away your power. You let someone else dictate how you feel, and that’s no way to live. True motivation is about finding your own reasons to push forward, your own “why.”

Motivation isn’t something that just happens to you. It’s something you create. It’s about setting your own goals, finding what excites you, and going after it with everything you’ve got. It’s about waking up every day with a purpose, not because someone else told you to, but because you want to.

Now, don’t get me wrong. It’s great to get support and encouragement from others, but that should be the cherry on top, not the whole sundae. When you base your drive on external validation, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. People are fickle; their opinions change like the wind. You can’t control that. What you can control is your own attitude, your own effort, and your own determination.

So, how do you build that internal motivation? Start by setting clear, meaningful goals. Make sure they align with your values and passions. Break them down into manageable steps, and celebrate your progress along the way. Surround yourself with positive influences, but remember that the ultimate push has to come from you.

Also, practice self-compassion. There will be days when you’re not feeling it, and that’s okay. Don’t beat yourself up. Take a break, refocus, and get back at it. Remember, it’s about progress, not perfection.

At the end of the day, you are the only one who can truly motivate yourself. Own your journey. Find what drives you and let that be your guiding force. External validation? That’s just for parking. You’re here to make a difference, and it starts with believing in yourself and your own worth. Keep pushing, keep growing, and remember, you’ve got this.
