Last night, I was on a leadership call, and one of my business partners mentioned she was reading a book called The Mountain is You. She didn’t mention the author, but the concept hit me like a lightning bolt: what if the biggest obstacle standing in your way is you?
Let’s be real—how long have you been in your own way? Think about it. How many excuses have you made? How many opportunities have you let slip by because of fear, procrastination, or self-doubt? Now, here’s the scary part: can you imagine the progress you’ve lost simply because you’ve been your own roadblock?
I’ll say it plainly: you might be contributing to your own misery. And while that’s a hard pill to swallow, it’s also liberating. Why? Because if you’re the problem, then you can also be the solution.
Time for Self-Reflection
I’ve committed to dealing with myself in 2025. That’s right—me, myself, and I are having a serious sit-down. No more excuses, no more dragging my feet. I’m saying:
“Self, you need to get it together. We’ve got things to do. Life is vast, but it’s not as long as you think.”
It’s easy to blame circumstances, people, or timing for why you’re stuck. But the truth is, most of the time, it’s your own mindset, habits, and fears that hold you back. And if that’s the case, guess what? You have the power to change it.
Get Out of Your Own Way
Here’s the challenge: start paying attention to the excuses you make.
- “I don’t have enough time.”
- “I’m not ready.”
- “What if I fail?”
Sound familiar? These are the walls you’ve built around yourself. It’s time to knock them down, brick by brick.
Create Self-Talk That Moves You
One thing I’ve learned is that the way you talk to yourself matters. You can either tear yourself down or build yourself up. In 2025, I’m choosing words that move me. Phrases like:
- “I can do hard things.”
- “Every step forward counts, no matter how small.”
- “I’m not waiting for the right time; I’m making it the right time.”
Find the words that resonate with you and repeat them until they sink in. Write them on sticky notes. Say them in the mirror. Make them your anthem.
The Power of Turning It Around
The beauty of being your own obstacle is that you can also be your own breakthrough. The moment you decide to stop standing in your way, everything changes. Will it be easy? No. But it will be worth it.
Here’s my commitment: I’m dealing with myself head-on in 2025. I’m breaking down the excuses, fears, and doubts that have been keeping me stuck. And if you’ve realized that you are your mountain, I challenge you to do the same.
Because at the end of the day, no one else is coming to move that mountain for you. It’s up to you. So grab your tools, start digging, and get out of your own way.
Your mountain isn’t permanent—it’s just waiting for you to move it.
