The Power of Closing Doors – For Good

Listen, some doors ain’t meant to be reopened. Ever. Napoleon Hill talked about the power of closing doors—really shutting them, locking them, and tossing the key—so you can move forward without looking back. And let me tell you, that’s a word.

Too often, we get caught up in keeping doors cracked open, just in case. Just in case the old job calls. Just in case that ex comes back acting right. Just in case we feel weak and want to double back on something we know wasn’t serving us. But here’s the truth: keeping one foot in an old room only slows you down from walking fully into your next blessing.

Burn the Boats, Shut the Doors

Hill’s philosophy was simple: when you make a decision, commit. Close the door and don’t give yourself an escape route back to where you came from. That’s how you move with power. That’s how you make real progress.

When you leave a job that drained you? Close the door.
When you walk away from a toxic relationship? Close the door.
When you outgrow a mindset that kept you stuck? Close the door.

That means no revisiting, no entertaining, no second-guessing. Some doors need to stay shut because they only lead to detours, delays, and distractions.

When the Past Calls, Don’t Answer

Have you ever noticed how, right when you’re leveling up, old situations try to creep back in? That’s no coincidence. The moment you start breaking free, the past will test you.

That ex you finally moved on from? Suddenly texting “Hey, stranger.”
That job you walked away from? Hitting you up like “We have a new opportunity.”
That old habit you swore off? Looking real tempting when life gets hard.

But let me be clear: if you needed to close the door, it was for a reason. Don’t romanticize what you prayed your way out of. The past will try to make you forget the struggle, the pain, and the reasons you left—but stand firm.

The Freedom of Finality

There is power in finality—in knowing that some things are done for good. Because when you truly close a door, you free up your energy for what’s next.

Think about it. When you’re constantly looking back, debating if you made the right choice, or keeping ties to the past, you’re not fully available for new blessings. You can’t step into your next season with baggage from the last one. You can call me “Bag Lady” but not for that reason. It will definitely be because I “Secured the Bag”, period!

So, if you needed confirmation, here it is: close that door. Lock it. Walk away. What’s ahead is greater than what’s behind, and you don’t need a safety net for something God already told you to release. I am super intentional about Me these days! I encourage you to get your focus back on you and close the door on everything that is disturbing your being!

No more “just in case” doors. It’s time to move forward. No key required!
