I know, I know… it’s been a minute since I’ve posted. And if you’ve been wondering why your girl went a little quiet—let me go ahead and tell on myself. My super cape was raggedy. Yep, threads showing, holes everywhere, barely hanging on. And instead of flying high, I was flopping from one thing to the next trying to keep it all together.
Let me tell you something real: sometimes, you’ve got to slow down, take that cape OFF, and give yourself the space to breathe. Reflect. Recover. Sew up the holes.
Or better yet… maybe it’s time for a new cape.
Or maybe, just maybe—you don’t need the cape at all.
We Be Out Here Caping for Everybody
We wear so many hats—wife, mom, daughter, boss, employee, coach, friend, cheerleader, counselor, first responder to everybody’s emergency… the list goes on. And while it’s a blessing to be able to show up, it’s also a burden when you never sit down.
What I’ve learned (the hard way) is that you can’t be everybody’s hero all the time. Sometimes folks need to figure it out, and you need to rest. Because what good is your cape if you’re too worn out to fly?
Rest Is Not Weakness
Let’s break that lie right now. Rest is not lazy. Saying “no” is not selfish. And choosing peace over performing is not a betrayal of your greatness—it’s an act of wisdom.
The truth is: even superheroes have to hang their cape up. Recharge. Re-center. Reassess what’s working and what’s not.
Capeless and Still Powerful
I’m not just patching my cape—I’m questioning whether I need it at all.
Because when your identity is wrapped up in saving everybody else, you can forget you were never supposed to carry it all to begin with. That kind of pressure is not sustainable. Sometimes you gotta say, “I’m super, but I’m not your savior.”
And guess what? The people who love you won’t love you any less when you set the cape down. And if they do… well, that’s a whole other blog post.
Here’s Your Reminder…
So if your cape’s a little torn, frayed at the edges, burnt out from trying to be everything to everybody—take it off.
Rest. Breathe. Let God hold the world while you catch your breath.
Because you were never created to save the world—just to make a difference in it.
And that? You can do with or without the cape.
Now it’s your turn: When’s the last time you checked the condition of your cape? Drop me a comment or send a message. Let’s normalize choosing restoration over burnout.
