So listen… I’m a mom of what I call a teeny bopper. My daughter is about to turn 15, and let me tell you—every day is a new episode of “What Did She Just Say?” I hear all kinds of new lenguo (yes, I said lenguo, because that’s how it feels—like a whole new language).
For weeks now, she’s been running around the house yelling “67!” and “You better run!” at random moments. Like, I could be making dinner, folding laundry, or just minding my business—and boom! She hollers it out, laughing with her friends, trying to catch me off guard. They think I’m clueless, but little do they know, mama’s got ears and discernment.
Now here’s where the life lesson kicks in.
Lesson 1: Don’t Let People Just Say Anything to You
I don’t care if it’s your child, your coworker, or a stranger on the street—words have power. You don’t just let folks label you, speak over you, or holler random things at you without checking the meaning. If someone’s gonna speak something into my life, it better be intentional and carry weight. Otherwise? They better run! (See what I did there?)
Words shape atmospheres. They plant seeds. So if someone’s speaking confusion, negativity, or foolishness—nah, we’re not receiving that. Shut it down. Redirect it. Speak truth over it.
Lesson 2: Stay Woke to the Meaning Behind the Words
Now back to “67.” I did my little mom-investigation and found out it’s just a TikTok trend. Something silly. But it reminded me—you gotta stay aware. These kids are creative, but sometimes they’re just repeating stuff without knowing what it means. And that’s dangerous.
Same goes for us adults. Don’t just repeat what culture says. Don’t just go along with the crowd. Know what you’re saying. Know what you’re agreeing to. Stay sharp.
Lesson 3: Call Out the Lies – “IKYL”
Now this one I love. My daughter hit me with a new acronym: IKYL – I Know You’re Lying! Whew! That one got me excited.
Because when someone tries to speak something false over you—whether it’s doubt, fear, or anything contrary to your belief system—you better stop them in their tracks. Say it loud: “I know you’re lying!”
Believers know the phrase: “The devil is a liar.” Same energy. You don’t let lies linger. You don’t let them settle. You call them out and replace them with truth.
Bonus Lesson: Laugh, Learn, and Stay Connected
Even though my daughter’s lingo keeps me on my toes, I love it. It keeps me connected to her world. It reminds me that parenting isn’t just about rules—it’s about relationship. It’s about listening, learning, and sometimes laughing at the randomness.
So whether it’s “67,” “You better run,” or “IKYL,” I’m here for it. Because every phrase is a chance to teach, to grow, and to stay close.
Final Thought:
Don’t let the world speak confusion into your life. Stay aware, speak truth, and when necessary—you better run from anything that doesn’t align with who you are and what you believe.
