Let me just say this upfront: I’m learning this in real time. Like, I’m not writing this from the mountaintop of mastery—I’m writing this from the messy middle. The part where you know what you need to do, but you’re still figuring out how to do it.
Lately, I’ve been feeling like the days are just flying by. I blink and it’s 6 PM. I had all these intentions—read my Bible, get a workout in, call a few people, spend time with my husband, check in with family, build my business, write this blog—and somehow, none of it gets done. Or maybe one thing gets done, but everything else? Poof.
So I started exercising. Just three times a week. That’s it. And even that felt like a big deal. But here’s the thing: once I committed to that small rhythm, I started to feel a shift. Not just in my body, but in my mindset. I realized I don’t just need motivation—I need a routine.
Why Routine Matters (Even When You’re Not a “Routine Person”)
I used to think routines were for super structured people. You know, the ones who color-code their calendars and wake up at 5 AM on purpose. But now I see it differently. A routine isn’t about being rigid—it’s about being intentional. It’s about making space for the things that matter before the day runs away from you.
Because let’s be real: the day will run away from you if you let it.
So What Do We Do?
Here’s what I’m starting to lean into:
- Start small. I’m not trying to overhaul my whole life in one week. I’m just anchoring a few key things—like my workouts—into specific days and times.
- Stack habits. If I’m already up and moving after a workout, maybe that’s when I read a chapter of my book or spend 10 minutes in prayer.
- Protect the time. I’m learning to treat my routine like it’s sacred. Because it is. It’s how I show up for myself, my people, and my purpose.
- Give myself grace. Every day won’t be perfect. But progress? That’s the goal.
What I’m Working On
Right now, I’m trying to carve out time for:
- Reading (books and my Bible)
- Prayer and quiet time
- Quality time with my husband and family
- Outreach and business-building
- Writing (this blog included!)
It’s a lot. But it’s possible. Not all at once, not perfectly—but piece by piece, day by day.
So if you’re like me—trying to find your rhythm, feeling a little scattered, but still showing up—I see you. We’re in this together. Let’s build something steady, something sacred. One routine at a time.
