When Your Mouth Writes a Check It Can’t Cash

Let’s talk about that gut-wrenching feeling when you’ve told the wrong people your big plans, your bold goals, and your can’t-miss vision—only for life to hit you with delays, setbacks, or plain ol’ reality. Suddenly, your mouth has written a check your actions haven’t cashed (yet), and now there’s this awkward tension every time you see those people.

Maybe they’re silently judging, or worse, offering the dreaded, “So… how’s that thing going?” It stings because it’s not just about them; it’s about you feeling like you’ve let yourself down. Shame creeps in, whispering lies about your worth. Sound familiar?

The Pain of Falling Short

When we speak our dreams too soon or to the wrong crowd, we can feel exposed. It’s like putting all your cards on the table and realizing you don’t have the hand you thought you did. The worst part? Seeing them, being reminded of what you said you’d do but haven’t done (yet).

But here’s the thing—falling short doesn’t mean failing. It means you’re still in the process. Timing might be off, circumstances might not have aligned, but the vision God placed in you? That’s still very much alive.

Reframe the Narrative

Instead of letting shame call the shots, shift your perspective:

  • You didn’t quit. That alone puts you miles ahead of most.
  • Your vision is valid. If it came from God, trust that it’s on His timeline, not yours.
  • Lessons over losses. Every stumble teaches you something that sharpens your focus and fuels your determination.

As long as you’re still moving, still trying, still believing, you’re not defeated—you’re evolving.

Boundaries, Guardrails, and Blinders

Here’s what you do now:

  1. Throw Up Boundaries: Not everyone deserves a front-row seat to your dreams. Share your goals with people who will support, uplift, and challenge you in love—not those waiting to see you stumble.
  2. Install Guardrails: Protect your energy by keeping distractions, negativity, and unnecessary pressures out of your lane.
  3. Put on Blinders: Stay laser-focused on your vision. Stop worrying about what other people think or where they are in their journey. Your runway is yours alone, and you don’t need debris from comparison slowing you down.

A Reminder for the Journey

The shame you feel is temporary, but the victory that’s coming? That’s eternal. If God gave you the vision, He will equip you to see it through—on His timeline and according to His plan. Your current delays don’t mean denial.

So, the next time you catch yourself dodging someone who reminds you of your “unfinished business,” remember this: the story isn’t over. You’re still writing it, and the final chapter is going to be worth the wait.

Speak life over yourself, walk boldly in faith, and trust the process. Your runway is clear, and it’s time to take off. Let’s go, babeeee!
