We are continuing this theme as people are in need of internal freedom! Let me help you set yourself free!
Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get discussed nearly enough.
What happens when the person you’re most disappointed in is… you?
Not your spouse. Not your boss. Not your kids. Not your friends.
You.
There is a special kind of frustration that comes from looking in the mirror and knowing you’re capable of more, but somehow feeling stuck in the same place. You know the goals. You know the vision. You know what needs to be done.
Yet days become weeks. Weeks become months. Sometimes years.
And before long, you’re carrying around a quiet dissatisfaction that nobody else can see.
The Trap of Self-Disappointment
The dangerous thing about being unhappy with yourself is that it often doesn’t happen overnight.
It’s usually the result of accumulated disappointments. ( this part!)
Promises you made to yourself but didn’t keep.
Goals you started but didn’t finish.
Dreams you postponed until “someday.”
The weight of those unfinished commitments begins to pile up. Each one quietly whispers:
“See? You never follow through.”
Over time, that voice becomes so familiar that you start believing it.
Not because it’s true.
Because you’ve heard it so often.
Getting Stuck Feels Like Quicksand
When you’re stuck, everything feels heavier than it should.
Simple tasks seem exhausting.
Motivation disappears.
Your confidence takes a vacation without telling you.
You watch other people making moves, launching businesses, getting healthier, traveling, getting promoted, buying homes, starting ministries, and living boldly.
Meanwhile, you’re wondering why you can’t gain momentum in your own life.
The comparison game begins.
And if we’re being honest, social media doesn’t help.
Everybody looks like they’re winning while you’re fighting battles nobody can see.
The Real Problem Isn’t Laziness
Most people who feel stuck are not lazy.
They’re exhausted.
Exhausted from overthinking.
Exhausted from doubting themselves.
Exhausted from carrying old disappointments.
Exhausted from trying to be everything for everybody while neglecting themselves.
Many high-achieving people are secretly struggling because they spend so much time pouring into others that they never stop to refill their own cup.
You can’t continuously pour from an empty pitcher and then wonder why you’re running dry.
The Danger of Sitting in the Funk
…is you get STINKY!
Here’s where things get tricky.
The longer you stay unhappy with yourself, the more normal it begins to feel.
You stop expecting good things.
You stop taking risks.
You stop believing change is possible.
You start saying things like:
- “This is just who I am.”
- “Maybe it’s too late.”
- “I’ve always struggled with this.”
- “Maybe some people are just lucky.”
No sis. No bro. No Friend!
That is not truth.
That is stagnation talking.
The longer you sit in a negative state, the deeper the roots grow.
Soon, what started as discouragement becomes your identity.
And that is a dangerous place to be. Protect your identity at all costs.
The Way Out Isn’t a Giant Leap
Most people think they need a dramatic transformation.
A new year.
A new job.
A new relationship.
A new city.
A new body.
But lasting change usually starts much smaller.
One walk.
One prayer.
One application.
One workout.
One interview.
One chapter.
One day of keeping a promise to yourself.
The goal isn’t to become a totally different person overnight.
The goal is to rebuild trust with yourself one small win at a time.
Give Yourself Some Grace
One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is that beating yourself up doesn’t make you grow faster. Actually it causes you pain. I definitely experienced that.
It just makes the journey heavier.
You are allowed to be a work in progress.
You are allowed to have setbacks.
You are allowed to start over as many times as necessary.
God has never required perfection from us.
He asks for faithfulness.
Some days faithfulness looks like conquering the mountain.
Other days it looks like simply getting out of bed and trying again. (I’m telling you!)
Both count.
Your Future Self Is Waiting
The version of you that you’ve been dreaming about already exists.
It exists on the other side of consistency.
It exists on the other side of courage.
It exists on the other side of believing that your current circumstances are not your final destination.
The question is not whether it’s there.
The question is whether you’ll keep moving toward it.
Even if it’s slow.
Even if it’s messy.
Even if nobody else understands the journey.
Final Thoughts
If you’re not happy with yourself right now, don’t unpack and make that place your permanent residence.
Visit if you must.
Reflect if you need to.
Cry if you have to.
But don’t live there.
You are not your mistakes.
You are not your delays.
You are not your disappointments.
You are not stuck forever.
This season may have slowed you down, but it does not have the power to stop your purpose. (Read that again!)
Take one step today.
Then another tomorrow.
Before you know it, the person you thought was stuck will be the very person inspiring others to keep going.
And trust me, that comeback story will be worth every step. ❤️
