Or, did somebody really sell you the banana in the tail pipe? You’ve heard of pipe dreams, right? Well, are you living in one?

Most people spend their lives chasing things they were taught to want.

The dream job.

The luxury car.

The big house.

The picture-perfect relationship.

The designer labels.

The exotic vacations.

The six-figure income.

None of those things are inherently bad. In fact, some of them may genuinely align with your dreams. But the question is:

Do you want them because they matter to you, or because you’ve been conditioned to believe they should?

That’s a very different conversation. Besides, most people who paint these pictures for show are living a lie.

I literally read about a social media content creator today who built a massive following by publicly showcasing the extravagant ways he spoiled his wife. To millions of viewers, he appeared to be the ultimate husband. He gave her money, gifts, luxury experiences, self-care opportunities, and what many people would call the “soft life.” They had five children together, and from the outside looking in, it seemed like the picture-perfect relationship.

The reality, however, was very different.

Behind the carefully curated posts and smiling photos was a relationship reportedly marked by abuse, control, possessiveness, and manipulation. While he was encouraging women around the world to find a man like him, his wife was allegedly living in an environment that was anything but healthy. What appeared to be a dream life was, in actuality, a prison hidden behind a beautiful social media highlight reel.

It’s heartbreaking. But unfortunately, this story is not unique.

There are countless people living lives that look amazing on the outside while quietly struggling on the inside. What we see online is often a carefully selected version of reality, not the full story.

So what’s my point?

My point is that all of the money, attention, gifts, luxury, and appearances did not necessarily equate to happiness. What good are the material things if your emotional, mental, and physical well-being are suffering?

Perhaps what would have served her better wasn’t a lifestyle that made other people envious. Perhaps it was a partner who truly listened. Someone who cared about her needs, her dreams, her goals, her work, and her well-being. Someone committed to creating a safe, loving environment where both partners and their children could thrive.

Because healthy relationships are built on much more than provision.

They’re built on respect.

Trust.

Communication.

Partnership.

Safety.

Mutual support.

And let’s be honest: physical abuse rarely begins with the first physical act. In many cases, the warning signs show up much earlier through emotional manipulation, controlling behavior, isolation, intimidation, and psychological abuse.

So why am I telling you this?

Because you have to decide.

What is truly important to you?

Is it the image?

Or is it the reality?

Is it the appearance of success?

Or is it peace?

Is it what everyone else admires?

Or what genuinely fulfills you?

The world is constantly showing you what you should want. But before you adopt someone else’s definition of success, make sure you’re clear on your own.

Because the life that looks good to others may not be the life that’s good for you. And sometimes the greatest blessing isn’t getting what everyone else wants.

It’s having the courage to pursue what you truly value

The Life You Want… or the Life You Were Sold?

Every day, we’re bombarded with images telling us what success should look like.

Social media shows us carefully curated lifestyles.

Advertisements tell us what will make us happy.

Society rewards conformity and labels it achievement.

We scroll, we compare, and before long, we begin pursuing goals that never even originated from our own hearts.

Someone else defines success.

Someone else defines beauty.

Someone else defines happiness.

And without realizing it, we start building a life that looks impressive on the outside but feels empty on the inside.

Why?

Because we’re following someone else’s blueprint.

The Danger of Living Someone Else’s Dream

One of the saddest things in life isn’t failure.

It’s success in the wrong direction.

Imagine climbing a ladder for twenty years only to discover it was leaning against the wrong wall.

That’s what happens when we pursue goals without first identifying our values.

You work hard.

You sacrifice.

You achieve.

And then one day you realize…

“This isn’t what I really wanted.”

You don’t need more things.

You need more clarity.

Clarity about what truly matters to you.

What Do You Value?

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself:

  • What brings me joy?
  • What gives me peace?
  • What makes me feel alive?
  • What would I pursue if nobody else had an opinion?
  • What would I choose if no one was watching?

Those questions can be uncomfortable.

Because they force us to separate our authentic desires from the expectations of others.

Maybe you don’t want to be a CEO.

Maybe you want freedom.

Maybe you don’t want a mansion.

Maybe you want a cozy home filled with love.

Maybe you don’t want fame.

Maybe you want impact.

Maybe you don’t want to retire early.

Maybe you want meaningful work that energizes you every day.

There is no right answer.

There is only your answer.

Stop Letting the World Tell You Who to Be

Somewhere along the way, many of us stopped listening to ourselves.

We became more concerned with fitting in than standing out.

More concerned with approval than authenticity.

More concerned with appearances than alignment.

But here’s the truth:

The world doesn’t need another copy.

The world needs you.

The real you.

The version of you that dreams differently.

Thinks differently.

Creates differently.

Loves differently.

Leads differently.

The gifts you carry were not given to you by accident.

Your experiences are unique.

Your perspective is unique.

Your purpose is unique.

Why spend your life trying to become someone else?

Do You, Boo. Unapologetically.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:

Do you, boo.

Unapologetically.

Without permission.

Without guilt.

Without constantly checking whether other people approve.

There will always be people who don’t understand your vision.

There will always be people who question your choices.

There will always be people who think you should want what they want.

Let them.

Their assignment is not your assignment.

Their journey is not your journey.

Their definition of success is not your definition of success.

And that’s okay.

Let the World Experience You

Too many people keep their true selves hidden.

They shrink.

They censor themselves.

They dim their light to make others comfortable.

But what if the very thing you’re hiding is the thing the world needs most?

What if your authenticity is your superpower?

What if your uniqueness is your greatest advantage?

The world has enough imitations.

What it needs is your original voice.

Your original ideas.

Your original energy.

Your original purpose.

You were never meant to blend in.

You were meant to contribute something only you can contribute.

A Challenge for You

Today, I challenge you to stop chasing goals simply because they look good on paper.

Instead, ask yourself:

If nobody was watching, what would I truly want?

Write it down.

Don’t edit it.

Don’t shrink it.

Don’t justify it.

Just be honest.

Then compare your current goals to your answer.

Do they align?

Or have you been pursuing someone else’s dream?

Because a fulfilled life isn’t built by following the crowd.

It’s built by following your calling.

Final Thoughts

You were born an original.

Don’t spend your life becoming a cheap copy.

The world has already met everyone else.

It hasn’t fully experienced you yet.

So stop asking for permission.

Stop comparing.

Stop conforming.

Start listening to your heart, honoring your values, and pursuing what genuinely matters to you.

Because at the end of the day, success isn’t about having what everyone else has.

Success is having a life that feels right to you.

Now go be you.

Fully. Boldly. Unapologetically.

And let the world experience all of you.
