There is a place many people visit, but nobody should build a permanent residence there. It’s called “Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda” Land.

You know the neighborhood.

“I should’ve started that business years ago.”

“I could’ve pursued that opportunity.”

“I would’ve been successful if things had gone differently.”

The problem is that while you’re busy replaying the past, life is moving forward without you.

Too many people spend their days reliving mistakes, missed opportunities, failed relationships, bad decisions, and roads not taken. They constantly look back wondering what life would be like if they had made a different choice. While reflection can be healthy, living in regret is not.

Regret has a way of convincing us that our best days are behind us. It whispers that we missed our chance, blew the opportunity, or made too many mistakes to recover. Before long, we become trapped by something we no longer have the power to change.

The truth is, everyone has a past they would edit if given the chance.

Nobody gets through life without making mistakes.

Every person has made decisions they wish they could take back. Every person has experienced disappointment, setbacks, failures, and moments of poor judgment. That’s not a sign that you’re broken. That’s simply part of being human.

The question isn’t what happened.

The question is what you’re going to do next.

You cannot rewrite yesterday, but you can absolutely influence tomorrow.

Think about driving a car. The rearview mirror is useful because it allows you to see where you’ve been. But it occupies only a small portion of the windshield for a reason. If you spend all your time staring backward, you’re likely to miss what’s directly in front of you.

Life works the same way.

The past should inform you, not imprison you.

Learn the lesson.

Accept the responsibility.

Forgive yourself.

Move forward.

Many people delay their future because they are still mourning a version of life that never happened. They spend years saying:

“I should have…”

“I could have…”

“I would have…”

Meanwhile, opportunities continue to pass by because they are too focused on past possibilities to recognize present ones.

What if your greatest opportunity isn’t behind you but ahead of you?

What if the setback wasn’t the end of your story?

What if the delay was preparation instead of failure?

Sometimes the doors that closed were protecting you. Sometimes the plans that fell apart were redirecting you. Sometimes the dream that didn’t happen was simply making room for something better.

The future has a way of rewarding people who keep moving.

You don’t have to have a perfect plan.

You don’t need all the answers.

You don’t need a guarantee.

You simply need the courage to take the next step.

Instead of saying:

“I should’ve started years ago.”

Say:

“I’m starting today.”

Instead of saying:

“I could’ve done more.”

Say:

“I’m doing what I can right now.”

Instead of saying:

“I would’ve succeeded.”

Say:

“I still have the ability to succeed.”

Every day spent dwelling on what cannot be changed is a day taken away from creating what can be.

Life is too short to become trapped by yesterday’s decisions. Your value is not determined by your mistakes, and your future is not limited by your past.

As long as you’re breathing, there is still time to grow, change, learn, rebuild, and pursue your purpose.

So visit the past if you need the lesson, but don’t unpack your bags there.

Close the borders to “Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda” Land and start living in “What’s Next?” Territory.

Because that’s where hope lives.

That’s where possibility lives.

And that’s where your next chapter begins. ❤️
